Male City Women’s Development committee initiated ‘Baaruveri Anhenun’, an awareness and information series programme for women, on Sunday, 13 August 2017.
The first session of this series was held from 1400 hrs to 1600 hrs at American Centre, and was conducted by the civil society organization working to protect women’s rights, Hope for Women. Male City WDC’s President Afshan Latheef noted that the first session was received with enthusiasm and participants expressed interest in attending future sessions. She noted a number of sessions have been planned as part of this series, including a fire safety training with the assistance of MNDF and sessions on life skills, health and mental wellbeing, information on loan opportunities and marketing for women entrepreneurs, in collaboration with NGOs and CSOs.
In order to encourage women’s participation in political activities and to run for political posts, the series will also include sessions aimed at enhancing leadership and public speaking skills. Afshan noted that information regarding these events will be publicized through available media and social media channels as Twitter and Facebook. She expressed hope that women will utilize these opportunities as all sessions will be free of charge and open to all.
