The Male' City Council has shared updates on the progress of the signature "One Hundred Thousand Tree" planting programme, which is a key initiative of the five-year Strategic Action Plan.
The information was shared by Mr. Ahmed Shareef, Member of the Tree Planting Committee and Senior Council Executive of MCC. In his presentation at the 68th sitting of the City Council, Shareef said that the programme has so far been a resounding success. He spoke on the different facets of the tree planting initiative, including sourcing some varieties from overseas, as well as ensuring that a large percentage were native varieties that needed attention. He added that trees would also be made available to enthusiastic residents to purchase.
Shareef noted that two nurseries had been established in Male' so far, and plans were afoot to make two more - one in Hulhumale' and one in Villimale'.
