A 50-foot power cable used for the sound system at Masjid al-Sultan al-Adil (Adil Mosque), maintained by the Male' City Council, was stolen late Friday night.
The theft disrupted the mosque's audio setup. As a result, worshippers performed the Fajr prayer without microphones or speakers. Council staff are working to replace the cable before the Dhuhr prayer call.
The Male' City Council reported the case to the Maldives Police Service for investigation.
The Council manages 41 mosques in the Greater Malé area and has recorded multiple theft cases at mosque premises.
Mayor Adam Azim said the authorities should identify those responsible and take legal action against them.
The Council stated that thefts at mosques disrupt services and are costly to repair and replace equipment.
