Message on the Occasion of Chinese New Year 2023

On the joyous occasion of Chinese New Year 2023, my colleagues – the Councillors of Male’ City, join me in conveying warm greetings and sincere wishes to His Excellency Xi Jinping, the government and close friendly people of China, as well as Her Excellency Wang Lixin and staff at the Chinese Embassy in Male’. We also include people from around the world who are celebrating this important, festive occasion.

While you welcome the Year of the Rabbit and begin a fortnight of festivities and celebrations, it is pertinent for people the world over to make personal commitments to the betterment of humanity. The promotion of peace, tolerance and kindness, as well as an affirmation to respecting nature and prioritising family bonds are entwined with the Year of the Rabbit. 

The residents of Male’ City send special greetings to their brethren in our sister cities in China, and wish China further progress and prosperity. It is with love and gratitude that we emphasise China’s special ties with the Maldives, and the invaluable development support and assistance of the Chinese Government in making ours a more liveable and beautiful city. We look forward to a future of continued ties based on mutual trust, respect and understanding.

Male' City Council sends greetings and good wishes to China and people around the world who are celebrating Chinese New Year

The Male' City Council expresses deep concern over the Government's interference in the independent judiciary, and in this week's sentencing of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. 

Reports of security forces holding the presiding judge in isolation until he heeded to the President's Office demands to switch his verdict to guilty and that at least seven members of the judge's family had been given highly-paid political jobs in the run-up to the sentencing, if proven, will add further credence to claims that the judiciary has been compromised and that the sentencing of President Yameen (for a third time in four years) was a politically-motivated travesty of justice. 

We call on the Supreme Court to intervene to ensure that all courts of law remain fully independent from executive duress and that President Yameen receives a speedy and fair appeal hearing to restore his fundamental rights.

އިންސާފު ޤާއިމު ކޮށްދެއްވުމަށް އެދި ނެރޭ ނޫސް ބަޔާން 

ރައީސް ޢަބްދުﷲ ޔާމީން ޢަބްދުލް ޤައްޔޫމުގެ މައްޗަށް ނުހައްޤުން 5 އަހަރު ދުވަހުގެ ޖަލު ހުކުމެއް 2019 ވަނަ އަހަރު ކްރިމިނަލް ކޯޓުން އިއްވާފައި ވީ ނަމަވެސް އެ ހުކުމް ދިވެހި ރާއްޖޭގެ ސްޕްރީމް ކޯޓުން ބާޠިލްކޮށް އެ މަނިކުފާނު މިނިވަންވެފައި ވަނިކޮށް އިއްޔެ (25 ޑިސެމްބަރ 2022) އަނެއްކާ މިވަނީ 11 އަހަރުގެ ޖަލުހުކުމެއް އެ މަނިކުފާނުގެ މައްޗަށް ކްރިނިމަކޯޓުން އިއްވާފައެވެ. 

ރައީސް ޢަބްދުﷲ ޔާމީން ޢަބްދުލް ޤައްޔޫމުގެ މައްޗަށް އިއްޔެ (25 ޑިސެމްބަރ 2022) ކްރިމިނަލް ކޯޓުން އިއްވި ހުކުމަކީ މާލޭ ސިޓީ ކައުންސިލާއި ރައްޔިތުން ނިހާޔަތަށް ކަންބޮޑުވާކަމެކެވެ. އަދި އެ މަނިކުފާނުގެ މައްޗަށް މިއިއްވި ހުކުމަކީ ކުރިއަށް އޮތް ދިވެހި ރާއްޖޭގެ ރިއާސީ އިންތިޚާބުގައި އިދިކޮޅު ރިއާސީ ކެންޑިޑޭޓެއްގެ ގޮތުގައި އެ މަނިކުފާނު ވާދަކުރެއްވުމަށް ވަރަށް ގިނަ ރައްޔިތުންތަކެއްގެ ރުހުމާއެކު ނިކުންނެވުމުން، އެ ފުރުޞަތުވެސް އެ މަނިކުފާނުގެ ކިބައިން ނިގުޅައިގަތުމުގެ ނިޔަތުގައި ކޮށްފައިވާ  ހުކުމެއްކަމުގައި ނޫނީ ނުމެވެއެވެ. އެހެނީ ރައީސް  ޢަބްދުﷲ ޔާމީން ޢަބްދުލް ޤައްޔޫމަކީ މުޅި ދިވެހި ރާއްޖެ އަށާއި ޚާއްޞަކޮށް މާލޭ ސިޓީއަށް ދުވަހަކުވެސް ނުގެނެވޭފަދަ ތަރައްޤީގެ ގިނަގުނަ މަސައްކަތެއް ގުނާ އަދަދު ނުކުރެވޭހާ ގިނައަދަދަކަށް ގެނެސްދެއްވައި، ރައްޔިތުންގެ ލޯތްބާއި އިހްތިރާމް ލިބިފައިވާ ރައީސެކެވެ. 

އެހެންކަމުން ރައީސް ޢަބްދުﷲ ޔާމީން ޢަބްދުލް ޤައްޔޫމަށް ކޮށްފައިވާ ހުކުމަކީ މާލޭ ސިޓީ އަށާއި  މުޅި ދިވެހި އުއްމަތަށް ލިބިގެން ދިޔަ ނިކަމެތި ކަމެކެވެ. ޝައްކެއްނެތް ގޮތުގައި މި ހުކުމަކީ ފަނޑިޔާރުގެއަށް ނުފޫޒު ފޯރުވައި ވަކި ސިޔާސީ މަންފާއެއް ހޯދުމަށް ކޮށްފައިވާ ހުކުމެއްކަމާއި، ހުކުމްކޮށްފައިވަނީ ފާސިގުންގެ ހެކިބަހާއެކުކަން އެނގި ހާމަވެއެވެ. އަދި އިއްޔެ މިކުރެވުނު އިންސާފެއް ނެތް 

ހުކުމަކީ އަދުލު އިންސާފުގެ ނިޒާމު ބޮއްސުންލާފައިވާ މިންވަރު ހާމަވެގެންދާ ހުކުމެއްކަން އެއްވެސް ޝައްކެއްނެތް މިންވަރަށް އެނގި ހާމަވެގެންދެއެވެ. 

އެހެންކަމުން ރައީސް އަބްދުﷲ ޔާމީން ޢަބްދުލް ޤައްޔޫމަށް އިންސާފު ހޯދައި ދިނުމަށް ކަމާގުޅުންހުރި އެންމެހައި މުއައްސަސާތަކަށް މާލޭ ސިޓީ ކައުންސިލުން އަޑުހަރުކޮށް ގޮވާލަމެވެ. އެ މަނިކުފާނަށް ލިބިވަޑައިގެންނެވި މި ހިތާމައިގައި ކެތްތެރިވުމަށާއި އެ މަނިކުފާނަށް ކާމިޔާބީ ދެއްވުމަށް އެދި ދުއާކުރަމެވެ. މި ހުކުމުގެ ސަބަބުން މި ދިވެހި ޤައުމު ވެއްޓިފައި މިވަނީ ފުންއަނދަވަޅަކަށްކަމުން، މިކަމުން އަރައިގަނެ އެމަނިކުފާނަށް އެނބުރި ރައްޔިތުންގެ ޚިދުމަތަށް އައުމުގެ ހެޔޮ ތައުފީޤު މިންވަރުކުރެއްވުން އެދި ﷲ ސުބުހާނަހޫ ވަތައާލާގެ ޙަޟުރަތުގައި ދުއާ ދަންނަވަމެވެ.
