Major Clean up Operation At T-Jetty - 19 Tons collected in 2 Days

The Malé City Council has started a special cleanup operation in the T-Jetty area and along Boduthakurufaanu Magu on the southwest side of Malé City.

The operation began last Saturday. As of this afternoon, 19 tons of waste have been collected and disposed of. The work is expected to be completed by tomorrow.

This clean up is a joint operation carried out by the Council’s Waste Section and Community Engagement Unit. The aim of the operation is to keep Malé clean and maintain pleasant streets. The Council noted that waste thrown on the streets often blocks drainage systems. During rainy periods, this prevents water from draining properly leading to flooding and causing serious difficulties for residents.

Speaking about the operation, The Mayor of Malé City, Adam Azim said that theCouncil staff work from morning until night every day to keep Malé and Villimalé clean. He also thanked the Police for their cooperation in helping to maintain safety and security in the city.

Mayor Azim said that waste management is closely linked to public awareness. He appealed to the public not to throw waste on streets, in parks, public areas, or into the lagoon. The Mayor has repeatedly stated that the cooperation of all residents is important to make Malé a clean, beautiful, safe and welcoming city.

The Council requests members of the public to send photos or videos to 9341144 if they see anyone littering on the streets of Malé City. Reports can also be made by calling the Council toll free hotline at 1622.
