Male' City Council is carrying out algae cleaning works on the steps leading to the swimming track on the southern side of Malé twice a week.
This work is carried out to improve safety for people who use the area. The cleaning is done during low tide to make the work easier and more effective.
The swimming track is used by athletes, students, and members of the public for swimming, training, and other community activities. Algae can make the steps slippery and increase the risk of accidents. For this reason, the Council has instructed regular cleaning of the steps.
The Council also carries out the cleaning of the surrounding lagoon area. Routined efforts aim to provide a clean, safe, and healthy environment for everyone using the swimming track.
