The Malé City Council has fined 17 vessels for using the Vilimalé lagoon against regulations as part of its ongoing work to organize and manage the lagoon.
The ships were anchored without the required procedures. This creates a difficult situation for people and businesses who were using the lagoon with official permits.
The Council acted against these vessels to preserve order in the lagoon and to help with the problems experienced by licensed lagoon users.
The Malé City Council manages the Vilimalé lagoon under their jurisdiction. The Council is working to improve lagoon management and reduce the number of vessels that are using the area without permission.
The Council is appealing to all to abide by the rules governing the use of the lagoon. It added that action will continue to be taken against vessels anchored in the lagoon in breach of the rules.
