Positive public feedback following the launch of the new Special Constabulary Service in Male'

The new Special Constabulary Service launched in a collaborative effort by the Male' City Council and the Maldives Police Service has generated positive feedback from members of the public. The service, which was launched on the 1st of August, has been addressing numerous public nuisance and health and safety issues across Male' and Villimale'.

The service includes 40 policemen and policewomen and has so far been running smoothly.

The Special Constabulary has been addressing a variety of concerns, including violations of the building code, unsafe dumping of garbage and impediments on pavements and thoroughfares.

Advise was given to vendors following unsafe storage of food items and placement of cement bags on streets. The constabulary is planning on establishing a special hotline to address concerns more efficiently.

The Special Constabulary Service was launched with an agreement signed between the two stakeholders on 15 February 2022, and the subsequent official launching on 19 July 2022 during the 2nd Public Consultation of the Male' City Council.
