Hulhumale' Councilor Shujau urges government to reconsider decision to exclude City Council from deliberations on giving housing plots to the city's residents

Male' City Council Member for the Hulhumale' Constituency, Ibrahim Shujau has urged the government to reconsider their decision to exclude the Male' City Council from the stakeholders in the committee on providing housing plots for the residents of Male' City.

Shujau noted that, yet again, the government was breaking the law. "Law number 7/2010 is very clear, and so is our mandate. We are elected officials. Elected directly by the residents of this city. They deserve to be heard. We represent them."

Speaking at today's 90th sitting of the Male' City Council, Shujau added that the government has no authority to bypass the City Council, and that the government's decision to usurp the City Council's mandate through line ministries is nothing but a violation of the law.
