The Male' City Council has decided to charge a nominal fee from expatriates using Sultan Park and Lonuziyaaraiy Park, with immediate effect.
Speaking on the issue at the 104th sitting of the Male' City Council, the Mayor of Male' City, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that charging non-nationals for using public facilities was a common practice across the world and that it could not be percieved as discrimination.
Noting that the move can be implemented with immediate effect as the main entrances to both the parks are being staffed, the Mayor said that charging a fee would be resumed at Sultan Park, while it would be introduced for the very first time at Lonuziyaaraiy Park. The move is to come into effect from the 15th of June.
