Male' City Council Develops cycle Parking Zone in Galolhu to Ease Traffic Congestion

In an effort to ease traffic congestion and enhance urban infrastructure, Male’ City Council is developing a dedicated cycle parking zone in Galolhu. The project is part of a broader urban planning initiative aimed at creating a more accessible and commuter-friendly city.

The new cycle parking facility is being constructed on a previously vacant plot adjacent to the Galolhu Graveyard, along Bodurasgefaanu Magu—one of the busiest roads in the capital. Known for frequent traffic bottlenecks due to improperly parked cycles and heavy pedestrian flow, the area is expected to see significant improvements once the facility is completed.

During a recent site inspection, Mayor Adam Azim expressed optimism about the project's impact. “With the completion of this parking zone, we are providing a practical solution to a growing problem. The additional parking slots will reduce roadside clutter and make it easier for everyone to get around,” he stated.

In addition to the cycle parking zone, the council is also working to widen nearby roads. Notably, a one-meter expansion is planned for Bodurasgefaanu Magu to help improve traffic flow and pedestrian movement. “This is part of our ongoing efforts to modernize the city’s infrastructure and improve the quality of life for Male’ residents,” Mayor Azim added.

The initiative is one of several key infrastructure projects led by Mayor Azim. Council has already completed road widening between Fishermen’s Park and the MTCC Ferry Terminal, a development that has improved connectivity and eased congestion in the area.

City Council is encouraging residents to support these efforts and anticipates a positive impact on both traffic management and community well-being.
