His Excellency Mohamed Rizvi Hassan, the newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Maldives, paid a courtesy call on Mayor Adam Azim on Sunday, 19 October, at Malé City Hall.
During the meeting, Mayor Azim welcomed the Ambassador and extended his congratulations on the new appointment. Mayor shared updates on Malé City Council’s ongoing initiatives to enhance urban services, sustainability, and the overall quality of life for residents. He noted the close historical and cultural ties between the people of Malé and Colombo, and highlighted the importance of fostering stronger city-level collaboration between the two capitals.
Both sides discussed the possibility of establishing a Sister City Agreement between Malé City and Colombo, aimed at strengthening cooperation in areas such as urban development, culture, education, and tourism. The initiative would create a framework for sharing best practices and promoting greater exchanges between the two cities.
Ambassador Mohamed Rizvi Hassan expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the Malé City Council. He noted that such partnerships at the city level can play a vital role in enhancing mutual understanding and development between communities in both countries.
The meeting concluded with both parties expressing optimism for continued collaboration between Malé City Council and Colombo, building on the strong foundation of friendship and shared values between the two cities.
