Message on the Occasion of Chinese New Year 2023

On the joyous occasion of Chinese New Year 2023, my colleagues – the Councillors of Male’ City, join me in conveying warm greetings and sincere wishes to His Excellency Xi Jinping, the government and close friendly people of China, as well as Her Excellency Wang Lixin and staff at the Chinese Embassy in Male’. We also include people from around the world who are celebrating this important, festive occasion.

While you welcome the Year of the Rabbit and begin a fortnight of festivities and celebrations, it is pertinent for people the world over to make personal commitments to the betterment of humanity. The promotion of peace, tolerance and kindness, as well as an affirmation to respecting nature and prioritising family bonds are entwined with the Year of the Rabbit.

The residents of Male’ City send special greetings to their brethren in our sister cities in China, and wish China further progress and prosperity. It is with love and gratitude that we emphasise China’s special ties with the Maldives, and the invaluable development support and assistance of the Chinese Government in making ours a more liveable and beautiful city. We look forward to a future of continued ties based on mutual trust, respect and understanding.
